WHY BEING POOR SUCKS: Understanding the Harsh Realities of Financial Lack

With the recent global crises, crashing economies and companies, runaway inflation, and difficulties in doing business, more and more people are being forced to go below the "poverty line". And in a world characterized by socio-economic disparities, being poor can have devastating consequences on one's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. While some may romanticize poverty, the stark reality is that living in poverty can be a challenging and unforgiving experience, causing much suffering to a large majority of human beings in this world of ours. In this post, we aim to shed light on the reasons why being poor "sucks" and the urgent need for our society to address this pressing issue.

Firstly, let us define being"poor" as being in a constant state of financial lack - when even in survival mode, being able to provide for just even the most basic of human needs are a challenge to meet, for one's own self and family; due to lack of money or income.

Limited Access to Basic Necessities

One of the most significant challenges faced by the poor is the lack of access to basic necessities such as clean water, nutritious food, proper housing, education and healthcare. For many, securing a stable income, one that will pay enough to fulfill these needs remains an uphill battle, resulting in many compromises - affecting health, education, environment, etc., causing a much inferior quality of life.

Constant Financial Strain

Living paycheck to paycheck, without any savings or safety net, places immense stress on individuals and families. The constant financial strain can lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, as even minor setbacks like a car breakdown or a medical emergency can push them further into debt.

Education is often regarded as a pathway out of poverty, but ironically, the poor often face limited access to quality education. Lack of resources and support at home can hinder academic performance, perpetuating the cycle of poverty across generations.

Reduced Social Mobility

The poor often find themselves trapped in a cycle where their financial status hinders upward mobility. Limited access to resources, networks, and opportunities can make it challenging for them to improve their circumstances or achieve their full potential.

More Illness Conditions and Health Disparities

Poor living conditions, inadequate nutrition, and limited access to healthcare services contribute to significantly more illness and health disparities. Chronic stress and lack of proper medical care can lead to many health issues, which, in turn, further exacerbate people's economic struggles.

Stigmatization and Marginalization

Society often stigmatizes poverty, leading to marginalization and discrimination against those experiencing financial hardship. The negative stereotypes can make it difficult for the poor to access support systems or opportunities for advancement.

Research suggests a correlation between poverty and crime rates. Desperation, lack of opportunities, and the need to survive can lead some individuals towards criminal activities, perpetuating a cycle of violence within impoverished communities.

Mental Health Challenges

The psychological toll of poverty cannot be overlooked. Constant stress, uncertainty about the future, and feelings of inadequacy can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, making it even more challenging to break free from poverty's grip.

The Children, Our Future, Suffer

Poorer families will often have malnourished and sickly children due to lack of nutritious food, proper growth environment, and supplementation. Not only physical growth is stunted, but also their mental, spiritual, values, and intelligence are severely negatively affected. This, I believe is one of the most pressing concerns for our society as a whole, for our children are our future and hope. We have to be able to provide them ample nutrition, caring, education, and guidance, so that they may grow to be better, more progressive people and adult human beings.

Being poor is more than just a lack of material wealth; it is a complex web of challenges that affect every aspect of a person's life. As a society, it is crucial to recognize the adverse effects of poverty and work towards creating more equitable opportunities for everyone. Empowering the poor through access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities can help break the cycle of poverty and pave the way for a more just and inclusive world.

As individuals and entrepreneurs, we should keep in mind that we are not only in business to make money. We should have a sense of mission and purpose - to be able to help those in dire need by providing opportunities and employment that will help elevate people from poverty. Our businesses should not to take advantage of other people's suffering, just to make profits; and instead provide an avenue for empowerment and financial gain for those who are deserving.

As a society, we can address the root causes of poverty and foster an environment where every single person will have the same opportunities and access to opportunities and work that will help provide for more than just survival. An environment where everyone will have better chances to thrive and have kinder, more comfortable lives.
