Chapter I: Introduction

Being in many businesses for the past decades, I have been involved with marketing and selling various products and services, ranging from those affordable and those very expensive (such as real estate). On one particular instance, when I was not having much success with creating interest and sales with what I saw was a great and highly relevant product, a mentor of mine in the business said: "Tony, I know you're such a great marketer, you're good with effectively educating the people about the benefits of our product. But I think you are just fishing in the "wrong pond"... This was the thought that led to the creation of this book. It had started in me the desire to understand the dynamics of the rich and the poor, the "the big fishes" and the "little fishes". I hope that this book helps you, dear reader, to understand and empathize, to take action, and hopefully contribute towards creating a more equitable, empathetic, and happier society.

A. Explanation of the Metaphor: Big Pond (Affluent Market) vs. Small Pond (Poor Individuals)

In this introductory chapter, we lay the foundation for understanding the metaphorical concept of the Big Pond and the Small Pond. The Big Pond represents the "big fish", the affluent market, characterized by individuals with higher purchasing power and access to resources and opportunities for economic gain. Conversely, the Small Pond represents individuals who are economically disadvantaged or living in poverty, facing various challenges due to limited financial means, with little or no access to opportunities and capital.

Is Network Marketing in the Philippines Good Business?

Let's talk about the elephant is the room: "Is Network Marketing Legal? Is it Ethical or Unethical?"

Network Marketing is just a business model. A way to get products from the manufacturer to the end user. Its basically the same as any other business except that it is built upon "word of mouth" - direct selling, and creating a distribution network of individual distributors/members, instead of retail shops and outlets. Yes, it will be a pyramid shaped structure, but heck, everything is a "pyramid" if we will look at the sales and distribution "network" of any big business.

To get it out of the way, these are the local practices and ways that Network Marketing becomes unethical: 1. Product/s is bad. 2. Products are overpriced. 3. Pressure Selling - People practically force their prospects to join by making unrealistic promises. 4. "Kidnap/Budol: - They invite their prospects supposedly to a birthday or party, only to be brought to a sales junket.

How I Connected My Life Purpose and Mission with Network Marketing

First off, I'd like to say that Network Marketing being a good thing is very subjective. While there are a lot of great businesses out there, there are still those predatory companies and "scam artists" that are doing damage to many people and the industry. I myself, have failed countless times in Network Marketing, having lost a lot money throughout the decades… That aside, in this post, what I will discuss why I still believe in this business model, and, how I've found my own way, and how I have aligned it with my spirituality and life-purpose/mission: which is to give low income people the platform where they can build foundational wealth, with less capital and less risk, in a professional and ethical manner.

As a citizen of a predominantly financially poor country, it's very common to see the negative effects of poverty on people and society. Poverty impacts so many aspects of life with such a large majority of our population. I realized that this truly distressed me. So, I embarked upon many a business with the intent to make "contribution" to society once I made my money. But that strategy for me has had mixed results. Throughout the decades, with all the trial and errors, and experiences, I realized that there was no company that provided what I believed would be the proper "recipe" for poverty alleviation. So, I had to do it my own way: I setup my own company - one that reflected my values, beliefs as a businessperson and my life's mission - to help people elevate themselves and their families from poverty, through gainful entrepreneurship. 

Here is what I did, and why I believe that this is the best Network Marketing setup, to serve low income people and give them a platform to create foundational wealth:

1. Low Start Up and Maintenance - I specifically had low income, minimum wage people in mind when I was designing the business plan. It had to be an amount that they could readily afford and one that wouldn't put a very big strain on their monthly budget. What I disliked about other companies' higher entry fees is that, I saw a lot of people resorted to selling valuables, taking loans and even pawning stuff, just to be able to put together the money to enter the business, only to lose out in the end.

Looking at Chuando Tan of Singapore and looking at myself, makes me think of how much I have let myself go. Hahahaha... But it does speak of possibilities, making me think that - "Hey, I don't have to look and feel like this." It means that we don't really have to look the way the majority of 50 year olds do. 

We have to recognize that the reason why Chuando looks and feels like a 20 -30 year old is because he has "paid the price" to be that way. In a similar way, we ourselves can improve our bodies, the moment we DECIDE and COMMIT to do whatever it takes to make our health better!
